St George’s dismissed within first hour on day two
1st innings Somerset 345/9 [declared]
St George’s 110 all out
St George’s completed a miserable first innings early on during the second day of Cup Match as champions Somerset completed a destruction of the east enders’ batting line-up within the first hour of play.
Dion Stovell was the chief destroyer of a brittle batting line-up as he, after taking three wickets on Thursday, claimed four more scalps in wiping out St George’s lower order in quick order.
Marcus Scotland [30], Macai Simons [four], Kevon Fubler [zero] and Luke Fulton [zero] were all victims of Stovell’s off-breaks, as the challengers lost their last five wickets for just 30 runs.
Veteran all-rounder Stovell, who has been named the game’s Most Valuable Player for the past two years, finished with figures of seven for 27.
Surprisingly, instead of enforcing the follow-on and attempting an innings victory, the champions elected to take their chances on a deteriorating wicket, catering to turn.
The home side’s goal would be to put their opponents back under the midday sun while building further their lead before making the visitors bat again.
