St David’s Shooter Sentenced to 15 Years Behind Bars

After pleading guilty to unlawfully shooting 22-year-old Isaiah Creighton intending to cause him grievous bodily harm and to using a firearm to commit the attack in Orange Hole, St. David’s, on
August 27 of last year, 26-year-old Daquan Williams was sentenced to 15 years behind bars.

According to Maria Sofianos, for the Crown, Mr. Creighton and Mr. Williams had known each other for years, were like brothers, and Mr. Williams even slept on Mr. Creighton’s couch
occasionally.

The Court heard that Mr. Creighton was shot in his abdomen and had called 9-1-1 himself after being shot. Meanwhile, the defendant left the scene on a bike alongside someone else in a
separate vehicle.

Mr. Creighton had to endure multiple painful surgeries for his wounds and his injuries left him unable to pursue his love of cricket. No one should live feeling as he feels now, Mr. Creighton
said in his impact statement, feeling as a stranger in his own skin.

Keeping the fact that Mr. Williams had entered an early guilty plea, he was entitled to a discounted sentence. So, as opposed to the standard 25 to 26-year sentence, Puisne Judge Juan Wolffe handed down a 15-year-sentence, five years for shooting the complainant and ten years for carrying a firearm. The firearm used has still not been recovered by police.
