SOUSA & CABRAL AND SUTHERLAND & RAYNOR SPLIT HONOURS AT THRILLING NATIONAL RACE AT DOCKYARD

The roar of engines and the spray of the Great Sound provided the backdrop to a spectacular afternoon of powerboat racing on Sunday, as Bermuda’s finest took to the water for the 2026 National Race at Dockyard.

In a day of high drama, lead changes, and heartbreak, it was Ricky Sousa III and Nick Cabral in B20 and Chad Sutherland and Sergio Raynor in C87 who emerged as overall winners.

*RACE 1: B20 BLAZES TO OVERALL GLORY*

The opening race saw the B Class steal the show.

Ricky Sousa III and Nick Cabral, piloting the potent B20, were in imperious form, not only claiming top honours in the B Class but powering to the Overall win for Race 1.

They were pushed all the way by the A Class champions Brandon DeSilva and Blake Burgess in A111, who finished second overall and first in A Class. DeSilva and Burgess showed blistering pace to hold off Chris Marshall and Santiago Roe in A3, who took second in A Class, with Marcus Pimental and Amber Furtado in A5 rounding out the A Class podium.

The C Class was won by the consistent pairing of Chad Sutherland and Lee Wilson in C87, who would later prove their day was far from over, finishing third overall in Race 1. They held off Phillip Pavia and Cameron White in C588 who took second.

In B Class, behind the flying B20, Tai Bean and Quince Dowling in B441 took second, followed by Jahcai Morris and Jeneko Place in B921 in third, and Damon Morris and Rick Raynor in B48 in fourth.

The D Class saw Matthew Smith and Brendan Renaud in D94 take a clean win.

*Overall Race 1:*
1st – B20 Ricky Sousa III and Nick Cabral
2nd – A111 Brandon DeSilva and Blake Burgess
3rd – C87 Chad Sutherland and Lee Wilson

*RACE 2: REDEMPTION FOR SUTHERLAND AND BEAN*

If Race 1 belonged to B20, Race 2 delivered a twist in the tale.

Drama struck the B Class as overall Race 1 winners Ricky Sousa III and Nick Cabral suffered a DNF, while Damon Morris and Rick Raynor in B48 were DNS.

That opened the door for Tai Bean and Quince Dowling in B441, who seized their opportunity in style, winning the B Class and finishing second overall. Jahcai Morris and Jeneko Place in B921 took second in B Class.

The story of Race 2, however, was C87. With Lee Wilson replaced by Sergio Raynor alongside Chad Sutherland, the boat found another gear, claiming first in C Class and storming to the Overall victory for Race 2. Phillip Pavia and Cameron White in C588 again took second in C Class.

A Class saw a repeat of Race 1, with Brandon DeSilva and Blake Burgess in A111 dominant for first, Chris Marshall and Santiago Roe in A3 second, and Marcus Pimental and Amber Furtado in A5 third. Their consistency earned them third overall in Race 2.

Matthew Smith and Brendan Renaud in D94 once again took top spot in D Class, completing a perfect day with two wins.

*Overall Race 2:*
1st – C87 Chad Sutherland and Sergio Raynor
2nd – B441 Tai Bean and Quince Dowling
