Somersfield Academy Alumni Present Scholarship Award

Betta Dais a network focused on increasing social development opportunities on the island and run by Somersfield Academy alumni presented their second scholarship through funds raised at their annual golf fundraiser held at the St. Regis Golf Course in Bermuda.

The network, run by Marquis and Jai Burgess, Karim Creary, and family member Zahn Richardson, saw an impressive turnout with a total of 19 teams participating, mirroring the enthusiasm of last year’s event. Notable alumni and volunteers played pivotal roles in organizing and executing the event. Jana Swainson-Roberts, Alynn Pitcher, the O’Shaughnessy Family, Cal Richardson, Casey Burgess, and Dion Bell deserve special recognition for their dedication and efforts.

The overall winners of the tournament were the Dreamworks team, comprised of Christian Petty, Michael Barit, Julien Papadopoulo (alumni), and Marquis Burgess (alumni).

The funds raised, totaling $7,000, will be allocated toward a Somersfield Academy Bursary for Shiloh Stevens at the start of the 2024/25 school year. Shiloh, who excels both academically and athletically, is a promising young student transitioning from public school to Somersfield Academy.

Marquis Burgess, who has committed to mentoring Shiloh, stated: “As an alumnus of Somersfield Academy, I am encouraged to ‘give back’ in this manner because I believe in the positive impact Somersfield Academy will have on a young Bermudian of colour – especially in his formative education.

From event organizer, Jai Burgess: “The school had a big impact in making me who I am, and I would like to contribute to helping them continue to make a positive impact on young Bermudians.”

“We’re pleased to welcome Shiloh Stevens to Somersfield Academy. His strong academic and athletic background makes him a great fit for our school,” said Alison Kempe, Head of Admissions. The support from our alumni through the Betta Dais Golf Fundraiser is making this possible, and we’re grateful for their commitment.”

The Betta Dais Golf Fundraiser shows the spirit of giving and community engagement, demonstrating the enduring commitment of Somersfield Academy to build socially conscious independent thinkers.

Contributions are welcome to further support these efforts. For more information on donations and account details, please contact marquisjcb@gmail.com.
