“We would normally deal with small contractors and look to field calls from them and be able to sell the leftover ply in quantities of, say 50 or so, sheets, but the threat of the storm has resulted in members of the general public contacting us to see if they can purchase the wood to secure their homes.

“We’re glad that we can be of help to the community, which is what we believe to be our role as an organisation, especially in this time of need.

“We are a community organisation that looks to, first and foremost, cater to the community that we serve, so we are taking numerous calls from people who want to protect their homes and loved ones.” Wade added that the club had decided to use three-quarter-inch plywood instead of 1’2 inch wood after consulting with executives representing rival club St George’s, as the thicker wood was more durable.

The sheets normally cost approximately $110 when purchased new from hardware stores, with SCC offering barely used sheets for $60.
