Smith’s Parish Man Faces Firearms Charges in Magistrates Court

A 23-year-old Smith’s Parish man has appeared in Magistrates’ Court for the second time this week, now facing multiple firearms-related offenses.

Najee Simons, 23, was not required to enter a plea to three indictable offenses, including two counts involving firearms and one count of possessing ammunition.

The charges stem from an incident on October 2, when police executed a warrant at a Smith’s Parish residence. Officers reportedly seized two handguns—a Taurus 9mm and a black Glock 26—as well as 19 rounds of ammunition.

Simons was remanded in custody. His court appearance follows an earlier hearing on Monday, when he was charged with the alleged murder of 37-year-old Janae Minors.

He is scheduled to return to court during the monthly arraignment session on December 1.

Charles Richardson represented Simon’s, while Magistrate Craig Attridge presided over the hearing, while Crown Counsel Matthew Frick for the DPP’s office.
