Skyport is hosting a Town Hall meeting to engage with the community regarding the upcoming upgrade to the Runway 30 approach lighting system at the LF Wade International Airport.
This significant project, which begins on February 12th and is slated to continue through early May with additional phases concluding in Fall 2024, aims to enhance the safety and efficiency of airport operations. The Town Hall meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 8, at 5:30 PM, and will be held in the Goddard Catering Building Board Room at 16 Kindley Road.
Addressing Community Concerns
The upgrade project involves incorporating new LED lighting and raising the height of the runway lighting towers. Recognizing the potential impact on nearby residents, Skyport is committed to implementing strategies to mitigate construction noise, which is expected to range between 85dBA and 135dBA depending on one’s proximity to the construction works. These efforts include careful scheduling of construction activities and employing advanced noise reduction techniques.
Construction Schedule Overview
The meeting will provide detailed information on the construction schedule, which includes:
– Vibratory hammering works planned for nighttime hours to minimize disturbance, from February 12 to March 2; March 16 to March 20; and May 4 to May 13.
– Diesel impact hammering will be limited to the morning hours from 7 AM to 10 AM on selected dates in March and April, to further reduce the impact on the community.
Engagement and Dialogue
Skyport’s Town Hall meeting aims to offer a platform for open dialogue, allowing community members to learn more about the project, understand the efforts to minimize noise and disruption, and express any concerns or questions. Skyport seeks to foster a collaborative relationship with the community, ensuring that feedback and concerns are addressed comprehensively.
Warren Moulaison- Director, Facilities & Asset Management at Skyport, stated, “Our goal is to work closely with our community neighbors throughout this project. We understand the importance of clear communication and are dedicated to transparency. This Town Hall is a key step in that direction and we encourage residents to attend.”
