The Bermuda holiday weekend got off to a busy start for police, who responded to six road traffic collisions on Friday alone, resulting in thousands of dollars in vehicular damage across the island.
In addition to investigating the collisions, officers made two arrests for impaired driving during the evening. Police also recovered a knife and arrested another individual for possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply. A number of outstanding warrants were also executed as officers maintained a heightened presence throughout the island.
Despite the various incidents, police reported no major issues overnight as carnival festivities got underway.
Police are reminding members of the public to celebrate responsibly throughout the holiday weekend. Those attending carnival events and other festivities are encouraged to enjoy themselves while making safe and lawful choices.
Authorities are urging residents and visitors not to drink and drive and to make alternative transportation arrangements if consuming alcohol. Police also reminded the public that it is illegal to carry a bladed article with a cutting edge exceeding three inches without lawful authority or reasonable excuse.
“Come out, have fun, enjoy the festivities, but leave the trouble at home,” police advised.
Officers will continue to monitor events throughout the weekend to ensure the safety of all participants and the wider community.
