Commissioner Simons was asked yesterday by the press about morale within the Bermuda Police Service after former police officer Lakila Hart was sentenced in Magistrate’s Court for abuse of power and intending to supply drugs yesterday [May 10], Commissioner of Police Darrin Simons emphasized that he and the BPS as a whole, disapproves any wrong doing by any member of the service.
“ We have very robust mechanisms to deal with situations where there is criminality or misconduct [within the BPS], and sometimes people just need to learn about doing things differently,” he said.
“ In Ms. Hart’s case, she had resigned as an officer before she got convicted of these offenses and her relationship with the service has now ended.
[Theconviction] is a reflection on all of us and is not one which we are happy about.”
