Sex Offender To Be Released From Prison

The Minister of Legal Affairs and Constitutional Reform, the Hon. Kathy Lynn Simmons, JP, MP, today issued a public notice of the impending release, of sex offender TeWolde Mathin Selassie, who will be released from the Department of Corrections Farm Facility on 21 February 2022.

Pursuant to section 329H of the Criminal Code 1907, the Minister is empowered to disclose information in relation to sex offenders who are considered to present a risk of significant harm to the health or safety of the public, an affected group of people, or an individual.   In accordance with this power, the Minister, after consulting with the Commissioner of Police, has determined that the public should be notified of Mr. Selassie’s release.

Mr. Selassie, a 44-year-old black male who will be of no fixed abode, was convicted and incarcerated for burglary and serious sexual assault.

Based on this and on other information received, the Minister has determined that the Ministry of Education should be provided with information regarding this offender, to ensure that relevant schools are notified about his impending release.
