Serious Collision Near Somerset Bridge Causes Major Traffic Delays

A serious road traffic collision in the west end of the island this morning brought traffic leaving and entering Somerset to a standstill for more than two hours. The incident occurred between 9:15 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. just west of Somerset Bridge and involved a motorcycle and a truck.

According to information received by TNN, the motorcycle collided with the truck, halting traffic in both directions. Vehicles heading east from Somerset experienced significant delays, with traffic backed up for nearly two hours. Motorists were diverted through the tracks and rerouted to the junction near Somerset Bridge while police officers worked to manage the scene and direct traffic.

The collision occurred just as a heavy downpour of rain swept through the area, further complicating driving conditions.

TNN understands that the female motorcycle rider sustained a suspected broken femur, a broken arm, and multiple lacerations. She was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. The truck driver was reportedly uninjured.

Compounding the situation, Digicel’s mobile signal went down around the same time, leaving many motorists unable to access data, make calls, or seek updates on the cause of the delay—heightening public concern during the disruption.

Police have begun an investigation into the cause of the collision. TNN has reached out to the Police Media Relations Manager for an official statement and will provide further updates as information becomes available.
