Russia suspected of cyberattack on Government IT systems

Premier David Burt suggested that a cyberattack that was believed to have originated from Russia caused an interruption in government’s Information Technology (IT) systems.

It Is also understood that several other Caribbean countries were likewise hit by a similar attack upon their governmental systems.

It is done that the court system cover as well as other departments, such as customs affected by the attack.
The Premier stated that the Department of National Security, himself Tourism Minister Vance Campbell, who has responsibility in the area, were looking into the situation and would give for other updates as they gather findings.

It was further noted that the extent of the infiltration was still being investigated and that internal and overseas partners we’re being utilised identify the exact source of the attack, as well as to further safeguard governmental systems.

“There has been an incident which is affecting not only the Bermuda Government but other regional governments as well,” said Burt. “Initial indication is that it’s come from an external source, most likely Russia.

“We are working with agencies to make sure that we can identify any particular challenges and make sure that services are restored as quickly as possible. ”
