TNN has confirmed that the missing South Korean kayaker Hyoung Park who spent nearly 24 hours adrift at sea is alive and recovering this evening, after being rescued approximately 28 miles off Bermuda’s south shore.
Authorities say the man was reported missing after he failed to return from a kayaking excursion yesterday. A coordinated search effort was launched involving the U.S. Coast Guard, the Bermuda Regiment’s Coast Guard Unit, Harbour Radio, and the Bermuda Police Service.
Tonight, the kayaker — exhausted but thankful — expressed deep appreciation for those who saved his life. Speaking with emotion, he described the moment he thought all hope had been lost:
“At that moment, I gave up the hope from the help from Bermuda,” he said. “I was thinking about the next step… just the tide, to go to South Africa or whatever — if I survive. But at that moment, God listening to me, and then the airplane is coming. I really appreciate the airplane.”
The C-130 U.S. Coast Guard aircraft spotted the lone kayaker at sea, leading to a successful rescue by a passing vessel. Emergency services transported him by ambulance to hospital for precautionary medical evaluation. Family members could be seen accompanying him upon arrival.
Authorities confirmed Mr.Park is expected to make a full recovery.
After a frightening ordeal, what could have been a tragedy ended with relief and gratitude.
