Southampton Rangers kept their foot firmly on the gas atop the Premier Division 50 Overs league, cruising to a five-wicket demolition of Warwick Workmen’s Club at PHC Stadium on Sunday.
In what was a potential preview of this coming Saturday’s Western Counties clash Rangers announced their superiority with an efficient all-around display.
Warwick’s batters looked rattled from the get-go as every one of Rangers’ five bowlers got in on the action.
Donte Brangman, Allan Douglas Jr, Nyhrobi Carmichael, and Dion Stovell all grabbed a pair of wickets, while Jordan DeSilva chimed in with one, as Warwick were bowled out for 187.
Alex Brown was Warwick’s top scorer with 39 at No 3, but he and his fellow prime bats – Kamau Leverock (26), Kevon Fubler (21), and Tre Manders (32) – all flattered to deceive, unable to build on promising starts.
Rangers’ reply got off to a wobbly start at 19 for three, but the middle order rode to the rescue, with captain Alex Dore (26), Dion Stovell (61 not out), and Onias Bascome (70) steadying the ship, allowing Rangers to breeze past the finish line.
Meanwhile, Bailey’s Bay are flirting with relegation yet again, after suffering a humbling 169-run thumping by St David’s.
Batting first, St David’s scratched together a modest 204, propped up by Ricardo Brangman’s composed 64, with handy support from OJ Pitcher (42) and Isaiah O’Brien (30).
MacQuille Walker continued his hot streak with the ball for Bay, bagging three for 37, while Sharye Tavares snatched three wickets of his own.
With bat in hand, Bailey’s Bay collapsed like a house of cards, as No 9 Dennico Hollis top-scored with just 28, as the side limped to 108 all out.
In the First Division 50 Overs competition, Cleveland County seized pole position after chalking up their second straight win to open the series.
The Harris Bay men routed a depleted Devonshire Rec by a staggering 284 runs at Lords, St David’s.
Steven Bremar hammered a century for Cleveland, Jermal Proctor chipped in with 86, and Clay Darrell’s unbeaten 50 helped set a daunting total of 346.
Devonshire barely put up a fight in reply, folding for just 62.
Flatts surged into second place, dispatching Somerset Bridge by five wickets at White Hill Field.
Bridge posted 196 for nine batting first, but Flatts coolly chased it down, finishing on 197 for five.
