Southampton Rangers’ flawless season rolled on in style yesterday, as they clinched the T20 KO Cup with a commanding 44-run demolition of St David’s at White Hill Field.
Onias Bascome orchestrated victory against his former club, launching a ruthlessly efficient 49 at the top of the order to lay the groundwork, before Dalin Richardson piled on to help Rangers post a towering 195 for six.
Bascome showed no mercy in the wide-open spaces, blasting 49 from just 21 balls, including five sixes and three fours. He single-handedly powered 42 of the 53 runs in an opening stand with Allan Douglas Jr [nine], before Douglas’s stay at the crease came to an end.
Bascome eventually fell to the slow bowling of OJ Pitcher; however, there would be no respite for St David’s as runs continued to flow.
Alex Dore [26] and Dion Stovell [33] chipped in with brisk cameos, setting the stage for Dalin Richardson [53] to take the spotlight as Rangers’ top scorer.
Chare Simons was the pick of St David’s bowlers with three for 47, while OJ Pitcher, Isaiah O’Brien, and Makai Young each nabbed a wicket.
Chasing a daunting target, St David’s stumbled out of the blocks, losing Justin Pitcher with just nine runs on the board.
O’Brien [92 not out] batted with a blend of poise and fireworks, steadying the ship alongside Dean Simons [four] as they nudged the total to 35 for the second wicket.
From there, St David’s searched in vain for a reliable partner for O’Brien, who peppered the field with nine fours and five sixes during his 55-ball masterclass.
Of the St David’s batters, only captain Derrick Brangman [14] and Brian Hall [27] managed to join O’Brien in double figures, as the reply fizzled out at 151 for six.
Every Rangers bowler chipped in with at least one wicket, with Douglas leading the charge with two for 31.
