Concerns over internal discipline and consistency within the Progressive Labour Party (PLP) surfaced during a Central Committee (CC) meeting Monday night, following confirmation that a delegate from Constituency 6 (C6) has been suspended.
According to information shared during the meeting from reliable sources , a delegate for C6, was suspended after allegations categorized as ethics violations, breaches of party rules, and the signing up of individuals who were reportedly registered in a different address. It was stated that the decision followed deliberations by a disciplinary committee, which concluded that the man in question violated constituency-level rules.
However, specific details surrounding the alleged infractions were not fully outlined during the meeting, leaving some CC members questioning both the severity of the violations and the transparency of the process. Other CC members indicated that while infractions were acknowledged, others within the party have committed violations considered far more serious without facing similar disciplinary action.
During the discussion, an example was raised involving a former candidate, who was alleged to have assisted activities within Constituency 31 (C31) that benefited an independent candidate during last February’s election. That intervention reportedly drew support away from PLP candidate Crystal Caesar, ultimately resulting in an electoral win by Linda Smith of the One Bermuda Alliance (OBA). The CC member described this conduct as gross and negligent, questioning why no suspension or disciplinary action was taken in that case.
The perceived inconsistency has fueled growing frustration among party members, with reports that several constituencies are experiencing internal conflict, disputes among delegates, and organizational disarray.
Inquiries have been sent to PLP public relations representatives seeking clarification on the suspension, the standards applied by the disciplinary committee, and whether similar cases have been reviewed. As of the time this story is being published, no official response has been received.
