Public Service IWD Wellness Walk

Yesterday the Public Service once again held its International Women’s Day (IWD) Wellness Walk to kick off a week of Government hosted events in advance of March 8.

Dozens of public and private sector women gathered on the Cabinet Office lawn to celebrate the annual occasion women’s empowerment occasion which serves as an opportunity to advocate for an environment of inclusivity, representation, fairness and equality.

This year’s theme is #AccelerateAction, and for the first time, today’s walk, welcomed members of Bermuda’s International Women’s Day Committee, led by its Chair Ms. Juanee Crockwell.

During yesterday’s activities, participants listened to remarks delivered by the Premier, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP; the Minister of Home Affairs the Hon. Alexa Lightbourne JP, MP; the Minster of Health, the Hon. Kim Wilson JP, MP; and the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, the Hon. Tinee Furbert, JP, MP – who also has the responsibility for Gender Affairs.

Head of the Public Service Cherie Whitter, said this year, the emphasis is on wellness, and signified that today’s walk is an important step towards encouraging women in the public service to prioritize overall health and wellbeing.

Ms. Whitter said, “As we celebrate International Women’s Day, it is inspiring to see our public service women come together for this wellness walk. This event marks the beginning of our 2025 wellness activities themed – ‘Journey to Wellness’. As an employer we are committed to fostering a healthy, supportive environment for all. Today, we challenge the women of the public service to take proactive steps towards a healthier lifestyle, which includes physical, mental and emotional health.  Let’s accelerate action towards a healthier future together as we work to enhance the lives to the people of Bermuda.”

On Friday, the IWD events continue, with the Government hosting the “Empower, Thrive & Shine: Women’s Wellness Celebration Fair 2025”, from 11.00 a.m. – 3.00 p.m., at Pier Six.

On hand to provide information and presentations will be representatives from Bermuda’s medical organisations, local banks, Government Departments such as Social Insurance and Health, and several others.
