Public Schools To End Three Days Early Says Kalmar Richards

In a BPS Matters statement sent to teacher and parents of the public school system, Commissioner of Education Mrs. Kalmar Richards indicating an Early End of Term Three notification.

I write to inform you that the last day of school for students this term will be Friday, June 24th, not Wednesday, June 29th, as per the Academic Calendar.

The continued transformation of our school system is a complex and challenging undertaking that requires all educators’ engagement in our school system.

These extra 3 days at the end of the term will allow us to be even more prepared for the next phases of design and implementation, which will start in September 2022. Working with the undivided attention of educators system-wide will fully position us for the exciting year ahead.

Additionally, Thursday, May 26th will be a full school day, and schools will not close at 2 pm as originally scheduled.

Using the last working week to do intensive professional learning with all teachers in the Bermuda Public School System will be significantly advantageous to our progress in reforming education.

At the same time, we understand that this is an unexpected closure and we, therefore, have connected with the Department of Youth and Sport. As a result, they will commence their Summer camps a week early and start on Monday, June 27th.

Registration for camps will be online only starting on May 25th. Please see the flyer attached for more details. Please note that spaces at the camps are limited.

I wish to acknowledge the hard work of the school-based staff who have worked at various levels of the transformation process while having to maintain their substantive roles.

I thank you, our parents, for your understanding.
