Public Encouraged To Send In Their Flora Duffy Congratulations  Messages

Next week (October 11), Bermuda’s first Olympic Gold Medalist, Flora Duffy returns home to Bermuda after enjoying a historic triathlon season overseas.

As the public is aware, October 18th has been designated a public holiday in recognition of Flora’s extraordinary success at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and World Triathlon.

This week the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sport shared a series of celebratory events that are planned for Ms. Duffy to honour her outstanding achievements.

As part of the recognition activities, the Ministry is inviting the community to send in their special video messages of congratulations  to Flora.

To participate, members of the community should film a short video tribute to Flora on their smart phones (30 – 45 seconds) and send it via WhatsApp to 703-9001.

All the videos received will be shared on October 18th via the Government’s social media platforms. Deadline for submissions is October 15, 2021.

Today Minister Ernest Peets said, “We want the community to be a part of Flora’s celebration and we think this is a great way for them to participate by sending in their personal messages of congratulations  for Flora to see. During such a challenging time, seeing our own on the world stage performing like no one before had the effect of bringing us together as a community and as a people. That same unity and togetherness is needed now more than ever.

“Lastly, I’m urging residents to continue to follow the public health regulations – this includes wearing a mask, hand sanitizing and maintaining the appropriate physical distancing; and if you haven’t done so already, speak to your doctor regarding the COVID-19 Vaccine.”
