Protest Action at LF Wade International Airport Last Week

TNN is receiving reports of a protest action  that took place at the LF Wade International Airport involving Menzies cleaning staff responsible for detailing and cleaning aircraft arriving into Bermuda.

The situation is understood to have escalated over alleged concerns regarding insurance coverage for employees. According to information shared with TNN, a staff member who recently attended a scheduled medical appointment was unexpectedly presented with a full bill. The doctor’s office informed the employee that there was no active insurance coverage on file.

It was only after further inquiry that workers reportedly learned their insurance coverage had lapsed, allegedly due to a new policy not yet fully implemented. This discovery prompted significant unrest among the workforce.

We understand that it has now been approximately a few days since  this alleged action began. On last week Tuesday, workers staged a full work stoppage, resulting in airline operators and their staff having to clean and prepare the aircraft themselves.

The employees await answers regarding their health coverage and the status of the supposed new policy.

TNN has reached out to the Minister of Transport as well as Menzies for official comment and awaits their responses.
