Last week (Feb. 23), Premier David Burt and the recognised the January Performance Champion, Shawnae Brangman as the recipient of the Government of Bermuda’s Public Service Excellence Award.
Ms. Brangman, a Social Worker in the Department of Child and Family Services, is being recognized for her outstanding contributions to the Foster Care Team. As a Social Worker, she has demonstrated consistent reliability to her clients, who represent a mixture of adults and children with diverse needs.
Ms. Brangman manages a diverse portfolio and recently had to work through multiple sensitive matters simultaneously. She was nominated for managing these highly sensitive matters with grace and compassion, going above and beyond to provide hands-on support to clients in moments of crisis.
Modelling excellent work ethic and high morale, Ms. Brangman was acknowledged by a colleague for her admirable team spirit, particularly over the last two months. Her dedication to the department saw her working long hours on a variety of high-risk cases and pushing through overwhelming demands. She made every effort to ensure her caseload would be manageable for the team during a planned leave period, despite narrow time constraints to fulfill all her responsibilities.
Premier Burt, expressed his appreciation for Ms. Brangman’s accomplishments, saying, “Social workers dedicated to foster care play an indispensable role in our community, serving as steadfast advocates for vulnerable children and families. I commend Ms. Brangman for her commitment to ensuring the safety, well-being, and stability of every child in her caseload. She is an exemplary ambassador of compassion and social justice and is most deserving of this award.”
Head of the Public Service, Ms. Cherie-lynn Whitter, also commended Ms. Bean adding, “On behalf of the Public Service Executive, I thank Ms. Brangman for her resilience throughout a difficult time in her department and for tirelessly supporting her clients. Her empathy towards the families in her portfolio and her team members is admirable. We wish her continued success and recognition throughout her career in Public Service.”
And Ms. Brangman said, “It’s a great feeling to be recognized and to know that there are people who appreciate the work we do.”
