Premier recognises February PSEA recipient

Earlier today (March 14), Premier David Burt recognised the Department of Employee and Organizational Development’s (DEOD) Janeek Providence as the recipient of the February (2023) Public Service Excellence Award.

As the community is aware, the Government of Bermuda’s PSEA recognizes Public Officers who are demonstrating admirable service delivery. Each month an individual or team is selected for their significant accomplishments in the last 60 days.

Ms. Providence is recognized for her exceptional work with the Department of Employee and Organizational Development. In her role as HR Business Partner, she has recently helped advance several matters critical to the operations of the Ministry of Public Works.

Ms. Providence assumed the Ministry of Works portfolio following the amalgamation of their HR satellite office into the Department of Employee and Organizational Development. Since taking this assignment, Ms. Providence has engaged senior management in HR planning for their multifaceted departments and implemented processes to stabilize operations.

Recently, Ms. Providence has managed several highly sensitive matters to mitigate risks to the Ministry and the Government. Her efforts have been pivotal in the change management process, upending the inertia, and working with the management team to help set priorities, short-term goals, and long-term planning milestones.

“Janeek has worked tirelessly to advance the filling of several crucial vacant posts,” said the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Public Works, Randy Rochester, who commended Ms. Providence’s cooperability and work ethic as an HR Business partner.

Her outstanding service has helped them make tremendous progress toward recruiting the levels of staff required for Public Works to meet its mandate. Her colleagues also praise her for having an infectious positive attitude towards work and being a faithful ally to the departments that she services.

Today, the Premier said, “As the leading employer in Bermuda, the vital services we provide touch all sectors of our community, and we’re proud to serve the people of Bermuda. We are determined to attract, develop and retain the best and brightest talent. We appreciate that employee recruitment can be an intensive process. The Ministry of Public Works is one of the busiest ministries in government. So, we absolutely commend Ms. Providence for having the initiative and foresight to expedite this process for her colleagues who were in desperate need of support staff.”

Head of the Public Service, Dr. Derrick Binns added, “Congratulations Janeek and well done! Effective internal support is instrumental to our collective progress. Thank you for recognizing this need and your hard work to meet it.”
