Recently (April 29), Premier David Burt presented local track star Jah-Nhai Perinchief with a $25,000 cheque to assist the young athlete in his continued sports endeavours.
The public will be aware that the Bermudian triple-jumper has performed outstandingly on the local and international sports stage.
During a special presentation event at the Cabinet Office, which saw Mr. Perinchief’s mother Janita Perinchief in attendance as well as Dr. Freddy Evans, President of the BNAA; Mia Bean, Treasurer of the BNAA and Mr. Perinchief via video link, Premier Burt said, “I am happy to show our unyielding support to Bermudian triple-jumper Jah-Nhai Perinchief in a tangible way with a cheque for $25,000 to assist with training costs, medical and physio costs, transportation and other amenities that an elite athlete needs to continue to perform at the highest level.
“Over the years we have watched with joy as Jah-Nhai has grown from a promising local talent to an elite athlete and a world-class triple-jumper who competes and wins at the collegiate level for the University of Tennessee and on the international stage representing our island of Bermuda.
“I hope that the support the Government has pledged to Jah-Nhai today will help him to continue his outstanding performances, and assist with his preparations, and training for the remainder of the outdoor athletics season including this summer’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England and beyond.”
