There is growing concern among the ranks of the ruling Progressive Labour Party following what we’re told, was the refusal by Health Minister, Kim Wilson, to continue on as Attorney General after she was only recently announced as AG following the departure of Kathy-Lynn Simmons from the Cabinet and then politics altogether.
Premier David Burt, said via a press release today, ” The role of Attorney-General is a specialist one and can prove difficult to fill. I am pleased to confirm that a suitably qualified candidate has been identified and will commence their service on 16th September.”
That person, Premier added, will be coming from the private sector. With the AG being a political appointment, and now coming from the private sector, it would mean that person will have to be named to the Senate.
That would entail one of the current PLP Senators having tovacate the Upper House to make way for the new appointee. Who the outgoing Senator will be remains to be seen.
We have reached out to Premier David Burt for comment.
