The Bermuda Police Service has issued a strong warning to motorists following a busy morning of enforcement that saw 15 traffic tickets issued in just over an hour. The offenses ranged from driving without a valid driver’s license to operating unlicensed vehicles, along with two arrests made for outstanding warrants.
With Christmas fast approaching, police are reminding the public that this is not the time to be caught up in the court system or burdened with unexpected fines. Officers stressed that driving without proper documentation can be costly, as penalties for unlicensed vehicles, lack of insurance, or invalid driver’s licenses can result in heavy fines.
Authorities are advising all motorists to ensure their vehicle licenses, insurance, and driver’s licenses are fully up to date. Failure to do so could lead to significant financial consequences and legal trouble.
In addition, the Bermuda Police Service announced that enforcement will be in full effect from now through the New Year’s festivities. A key focus of this heightened presence will be impaired driving, as officers continue to urge the public not to drink and drive.
Police reports revealed a troubling pattern over the weekend. On Friday night alone, there were four serious accidents, and by Saturday, the total number of accidents had risen to approximately 12 incidents between Friday and Saturday. These figures highlight growing concerns about reckless riding, dangerous driving, and increasing lawlessness on Bermuda’s roads.
To address this, the Bermuda Police Service will maintain a heavy presence across the entire island, aiming to stem the tide of unsafe behavior and reduce preventable accidents.
Officials are urging residents and visitors alike to make responsible choices. “You don’t want to be part of these statistics,” police emphasized. “Abide by the law, protect yourself, and protect others.”
