Police identify and confirm drugs washed up on John Smith Bay Beach

TNN News inquired to police about packages washing ashore at the Johns Smith Bay earlier this week. The BPS Media Relation department responded with this statement posted below.

On Friday 19 July 2024, the Bermuda Police Service received a report of a suspicious package washed up on the beach of John Smith’s Bay, Smith’s. Police Officers attended that location and seized the package, which was later taken to the government analyst for examination.

The BPS can now confirm that the suspected package seized tested positive for the controlled drug cannabis. An investigation into this incident is now underway.

There is some suggestion that there may be other similar packages that have washed ashore in the area of John Smith’s Bay. Should you happen upon one of these packages, or, if you have any information about them, we urge you to immediately contact the Drugs Unit on 247-1773.
