On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Constituency One of the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party (PLP) proudly hosted the 20th Annual Dame Jennifer M. Smith Future Leaders Award Ceremony at East End Primary School.
For the past ten years, the programme has been faithfully led by MP Renee D. L. Ming, who continues to champion this initiative with unwavering dedication. MP Ming and her organizing committee have vowed to ensure that this celebrated event remains a cornerstone of the constituency’s annual calendar.
Joining the proud parents and school principals in attendance were several distinguished guests, including Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, The Honourable Lovitta Foggo, JP, MP, The Honourable Curtis Dickinson, JP, MP, and Reverend Dr. Kimmie Mello, who offered prayers and support.
In a historic first, MP Renee Ming also served as the Guest Speaker. Her address, entitled “WHAT’S YOUR POWER – Building Resilience”, resonated deeply with the audience. She praised the honourees for the qualities of leadership, perseverance, and commitment that earned them the distinction, reminding them that their voices, actions, and dreams matter.
Though unable to attend in person, Dame Jennifer Smith, JP, DHumL was honoured for her legacy of strong leadership and celebrated as Bermuda’s first elected female Premier. Her vision continues to inspire generations of young leaders.
The programme also recognized two past award recipients, who were acknowledged for their ongoing accomplishments and encouraged to continue along their paths of excellence.
