PLP RESPONDS REGARDING VIRAL VIDEO ESTIMATING PREMIER’S NET WORTH

The Progressive Labour Party (PLP) tonight expressed dismay regarding a YouTube video emainating from a Caribbean online ecommerce platform, Jirie, asserting the Island’s leader to be among the top-10, wealthiest political leaders in the region, with cumulative net worth of close to $47.8 million.

The video has since deleted the portion, which featured Mr Burt fourth on a list including Barbados’ Prime Minister Mia Mottley ($5.45 million), Jamaica’s current Prime Minister, together with the island’s former Minister of Science, Technology and Mining, Andrew Holness ($40 million) and Philip Paulwell ($56 million) of Jamaica and Cayman Island’s Premier Alden McLaughlin (9 million).

“It is disappointing that individuals would seek to distract the leadership of the PLP by forwarding sensationally false videos from an overseas source,” read a statement from the Progessive Labor Party. “An apology has been sent to the Party Leader from the website, and the completely false information removed from the video.

“On Feb 17, the PLP government will release its 2023/24 budget in which it has considered many concerns raised by the public in this challenging economic climate.

“Notwithstanding this distraction, this PLP Government remains unwavering in its commitment to deliver on its promises for the betterment of the people of Bermuda.”

Mr Burt, who doubles as Minister of Finance has a listed salary of $207,285 for his role as Premier. The Finance Minister role stands at $177,033, it is understood the Premier doesn’t receive that second salary.
