TNN News is receiving reports of growing divisions within the Progressive Labour Party (PLP) as the race for the party’s leadership continues to expose deep fractures among its membership.
Late yesterday afternoon, TNN News learned that Constituency 36 Branch Chair Graham Maule reportedly resigned from his position following controversy surrounding comments he allegedly made in a WhatsApp group chat criticizing supporters of former Finance Minister Curtis Dickinson.
According to a message obtained by TNN News, Maule took aim at a fellow C36 member over her public support for Dickinson, writing:
I have been busy. My nephew got married. Norette is doing everything possible to try and support Curtis. She even went on MAJ’s List on Facebook and posted about him. No politics is allowed on MAJ’s List. Her post was removed and she embarrassed herself and C36.
I am not a supporter of Curtis Dickinson. He’s popular with all of the seniors who remember his mother. And the OBA supporters love him too. If the OBA can’t win government, they will try to push an OBA leaning candidate like Curtis. I will not support him. I don’t care how much financial acumen he has. We need somebody who has been fighting in the trenches longer than Curtis. So we are at War in every constituency in this country because the younger generations support Jason and the older generations support Curtis. I’m just tired of this cow manure. When are we ever going to learn to stop helping the OBA when we tear each other down in the PLP?
The remarks have further fueled concerns that the leadership race has split the governing party into two opposing camps—those backing Jason Hayward and those supporting Curtis Dickinson.
Sources tell TNN News that the divide has become increasingly evident across constituencies, with many younger members reportedly aligning themselves with team Hayward, while a significant number of longtime and senior party members are rallying behind team Dickinson.
It has been alleged that during or around April 2026, several applications for membership in the Progressive Labour Party were submitted to Constituency 36 branch official. We understand there are allegations that these applications may have been withheld or destroyed because it was believed the applicants supported the Curtis Dickinson leadership campaign. To add insult to injury TNN News Understand that the applicants paid a fee to become members. Question are being asked why has the PLP headquarters not responded to these potential new members.
One party member described the contest as “tearing the Progressive Labour Party apart,” expressing concern that the increasingly public infighting is damaging the party’s image.
A comments shared with TNN News, another member lamented the growing hostility within the party, saying members were “tearing each other down” rather than focusing on the challenges facing Bermuda.
The reported resignation of Maule marks the latest development in what has become an increasingly contentious leadership battle ahead of the PLP’s upcoming Delegates Conference.
TNN News sent a request for comment to PLP Chairwoman Dawn Simmons regarding Maule’s reported resignation and the concerns being raised about divisions within the party. A response was sent late last night, below is the full response on behalf of the PLP spokesperson
“The Progressive Labour Party’s leadership election is an internal democratic process. The Party will not comment on rumours, innuendo or unsubstantiated allegations circulated during the process.”
“Anyone with a genuine concern or evidence of wrongdoing should submit it through the Party’s established internal procedures, where it can be properly considered. The Party remains committed to conducting a fair, orderly and constitutionally governed leadership election.”
