The announcement by Walter Roban, Deputy Leader if the Progressive Labour (Party PLP), that he will not contest the next General election, has reportedly led to a host of hopefuls
vying to succeed him as the party’s candidate on Constituency 15, Pembroke East.
Among them Vance Campbell, the now former Minister for the Cabinet Office, Vance Campbell, who failed in his bid.
TNN has been reliably informed that
Mr. Campbell and Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, who sits in the Senate, featured in a vote among the branch members for #15, with Mr. Darrell who is said to enjoy the support of party leader David Burt, emerging victorious by a vote of 17 – 2
It was this situation which is said to have led to Mr. Campbell resigning his Cabinet post. And there’s more. Now comes talk that the former minister may ultimately resign from politics
altogether and step down as the Member of Parliament for Constituency #9, Smith’s West.
Should he resign, this would of course trigger a by-election to choose a new Parliamentary Representative for the residents of #9, making this the fourth such event in one year to 2.
You may remember the first being in Smiths South following the resignation of Cole Simons, then in Smiths North after Michael Dunkley
walked away from politics and then there’s another scheduled for October 4th in Constituency 36, Sandys North as a result of the resignation of the now former Attorney General, Kathy- Lynn Simmons.
