PHC DEFEAT NORTH VILLAGE TO CLAIM RECORD 13TH FRIENDSHIP TROPHY CROWN

PHC outlasted arch-rivals to claim a 1-0 victory in Sunday’s tense Friendship Trophy final at Somerset Cricket Club.

Tempers flared during the early moments of the second half of the then scoreless match, when Village’s Jalen Harvey appeared to have scored the go-ahead-goal with a far post header, only to have referee Tyshun Simons disallow the goal for a foul, triggering dispute among players, coaches and officials.

Later on in the half, in the 68th minute, PHC captain Marco Warren scored what turned out to be the winning strike, when he converted from the penalty spot, after forward T’syi Showers was fouled in the penalty area.

The victory gave PHC a record 13 titles in the competition, compared to 11 for Village and Somerset Trojans.

Meanwhile, the opening game saw Paget take home the Shield title following a 3-2 triumph over Young Men’s Social Club.
