Petition Circulating Online Calling for Premier’s Immediate Resignation

A petition for Premier the Honorable David Burt to resign immediately has been recently circulating online.

Started by Agnes Butterfield, it had 488 signatures as of 8:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, with a goal of 500.

The petition began by explaining the correct rules for SafeKey recipients; according to Bermuda Government’s 2021 amendment Regulations; which “do not amend the obligation to maintain appropriate physical distancing (of at least six feet; or three feet between persons who are wearing masks.)”

“Premier Burt was in direct breach of these rules on May 24, 2021 at the [new] St. Regis Hotel in St. George’s,” the petition read. “He had no mask on at the venue and was not physically distancing with the other attendees.”

“ We are asking Premier Burt to step down as he has demonstrated that he cannot follow his own rules as outlined by him and his government. We feel that this makes his position as Premier untenable and are calling for his resignation immediately,” the petition concluded.

TNN has sent inquiries via email to the Department of Communications for a response to this petition, we await a reply.
