According to Acting Assistant Commissioner Nicholas Pedro, the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is aware of certain individuals within the community who are grooming young boys and men to become serious criminals in the future and will be targeting those individuals and bringing them to justice in the coming weeks.
“ When last night’s shooting at Robin Hood occurred, we were one day short of two months without a firearms incident and we contribute that to the policing work that we did in the wake of the last shooting in August, where we were targeting gang members, their drug dealing and their other criminality and we believe that was a big factor in the lack of shootings that occurred within that almost two month time frame,” Detective-Superintendent explained.
“ You will see more targeting of gang members and criminals in the future.”
He urges parents to be aware and intrusive as to what their children, particularly teenage sons, are doing and who they are talking to.
“ We are aware that some people are so cowardly to not pull the trigger themselves that they have to get young men to go out there and do it themselves, that is what we are dealing with,” he said. “ We will make a very robust case and bring all offenders to justice where the evidence allows.”
