Owen Darrell Secures Victory in First Parliamentary Run, Joins PLP Government

The Progressive Labour Party (PLP) welcomed a fresh face to the House of Assembly last night as Owen Darrell secured his seat in the 2025 General Election, marking his first time as a Member of Parliament.

In a post-election soundbite, Darrell expressed his gratitude to his constituents and the PLP for their support, acknowledging the weight of the responsibility ahead. This is not just about me winning a seat it’s about serving the people who put their trust in me, he stated. I am ready to work, to listen, and to make a difference for Bermuda.

Darrell’s victory is part of the PLP’s dominant performance, securing 25 seats in the House while the One Bermuda Alliance (OBA) took 11. Despite a low voter turnout, the PLP’s resounding win reinforced its leadership under Premier David Burt.

As he steps into his new role, Darrell emphasized his commitment to tackling the challenges that Bermudians face, particularly economic stability, rising costs of living, and the need for stronger community support systems. He also expressed enthusiasm about working alongside fellow PLP members, including other first-time MPs Alexa Lightbourne, Paul Wilmot and Pastor Leroy Bean.

With the election now behind him, Darrell is set to embark on his first term, vowing to uphold the values of the PLP and deliver meaningful change for the people of Bermuda.
