As has become an inherent part of the Good Friday tradition in Somerset a bumper crowd filled Warren Simmons Field (Naval Field), with plenty of activities for the young and mature to enjoy.
Kites, fun castles, various games, food, treats and libations were among the items featured, with all being offered free to those wishing to partake, courtesy of the charitable group known as Open Your Heart Foundation.
TNN was on the scene, with Trevor Lindsay able to get the low-down on what the event represented.
“This event is successful because of the participation of everyone in the community,” said the event’s MC Sean Anthony a.k.a. Ninja Cutty, while standing alongside DJ Donnie. “I’m talking about from the person that’s sitting on the wall to the person that’s sitting in the corporate office.
“Everyone is represented here, from all walks of life and I’m talking about lawyers, doctors, the people who pick up your trash.
“I’m talking about the DJs who have volunteered their time, as everyone here has volunteered their time and given.
“We’re not here getting paid to be here. We’re doing it for the love of the community .
“So, it’s the community coming together. It’s the corporate sponsors that are making sure that the children get a good Easter – and it’s also another one on Boxing Day – making sure they’re happy at that time, because it takes a whole community to raise these children.
“When this thing first started Bermuda was ripped by a lot of gun violence and anti-social behavious and this was a gateway for people to come from all over the Island to be in one spot and feel safe and also have the children feel safe to play with each other and actually be like how it was.
“And so we would like to rekindle that and we have rekindled that part of Bermuda, where you could go to somewhere, have a great day and your mind is at ease.
“Peace, love, unity and community.”
