OLYMPIC BRONZE MEDALLIST CLARRENCE HILL GIVES HIGH PRAISE TO DUFFY ON HER GOLD MEDAL ACHIEVEMENT

Retired Olympic heavyweight bronze Clarence Hill, Bermuda’s previous lone medal success story, last night (Monday) directed effusive praise at Flora Duffy for her achievement of triathlon gold at the ongoing Tokyo Games.
Hill said that he was overjoyed for the Island to finally have another athlete join him in the distinguished club reserved for Olympic medalists.

“I feel great about her winning,” Hill said. “I’ve been waiting for so many years to have someone in Bermuda do it and tonight Flora Duffy made it happen.

“It’s a great thing to have another medal, this one from the triathlon and I’m sure down the line someone else will get us another medal that we can likewise feel proud of because we have great sportsmen in the country.

“I was the only one to have won one for so many years it was great to have someone find success and be able to experience the feeling I have felt.

Hill intimated that he watched every moment of both the men’s and women’s triathlons and felt particularly great watching Duffy dominate the female event as she did, not offering any of the other competitors a sniff at the gold.

“I felt great watching my fellow Bermudian winning an Olympic medal and even more so winning a gold medal, it doesn’t get any better than that,” he furthered. “And I’m sure there will come another day when Bermuda is able to celebrate another Olympic medal.”
