NURSERY SEES HIGH NUMBER OF CHILDREN WITH DIARRHEA

TNN News understands that another illness is circulating among children in parts of Bermuda, with at least one nursery school notifying parents of a high number of students experiencing diarrhea.

The development comes on the heels of concerns surrounding COVID-19 cases in Bermuda and recent public health messaging.

TNN News is in receipt of an email sent to parents at a particular nursery, warning families that the school is experiencing what it described as a “high number” of students suffering from diarrhea.

Parents were reminded that the nursery’s sickness policy requires children experiencing diarrhea to remain at home.

According to the nursery, the policy is consistent with Health Department regulations intended to help prevent the spread of illness among students.

Parents were also advised that if their children are experiencing diarrhea, they will be asked to remain at home as a consideration for the health and wellbeing of other students.

The email concluded with the nursery thanking parents for their understanding and cooperation.

At this stage, TNN News has not independently confirmed the cause of the reported gastrointestinal illness or whether the cases are connected to any broader outbreak in Bermuda.

TNN News understands that inquiries are being made to the relevant health authorities to determine whether there has been an increase in reported gastrointestinal illness among school-aged children and whether any specific virus or infection has been identified.

TNN News awaits a response from the Ministry of Health/Department of Health and will provide an update should further information become available.
