New Holiday in October to Commemorate Duffy’s Successes

The Bermuda Government released a post on social media yesterday, declaring that Monday, October 18, 2021 will be “Flora Duffy day”, a new public holiday celebrating the success of one of the world’s most successful triathletes and the island’s first Olympic gold medalist.

Ms. Duffy’s gold-winning victory at the Tokyo olympics last month made Bermuda the smallest-ever country to win an Olympic gold medal.

The Honorable Premier David Burt also tweeted the following yesterday:
“ This afternoon in the House of Assembly, I stated that Monday, Oct. 18 will be declared a public holiday!

This will be a one-off holiday to celebrate flora Duffy’s gold medal success at the Tokyo Olympics.

More details will be released on Wednesday by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sports in the Senate.”
