A Bermuda mother is making an emotional plea for help to get herself and her children out of the island, saying her family is living in fear following a series of violent incidents, threats and alleged harassment.
The mother says the situation has become unbearable after her youngest son was stabbed in Hamilton on Tuesday, while another son, was shot in August.
She says Pastor Bean and his team has stepped in to help her son who was stabbed, but she is now asking what assistance is available for the rest of her family.
The mother says her 20-year-old son has been threatened and chased on multiple occasions, while her daughter has also allegedly been threatened and harassed because of associations attributed to members of a group referred to as “EBK.”
According to the mother, the problems began after her sixteen-year-old son was allegedly bullied by a group of children around CedarBridge School. She says the situation escalated to an incident in which approximately 15 youths allegedly confronted her son and his friends while they were walking to school.
She says her son repeatedly fought back against those she says were targeting him, until the violence ultimately escalated to him being shot while riding with friends in the Mount Hill area.
The mother says her daughter was later allegedly confronted at a dance inside Baileys Bay Cricket Club facility, with threats and accusations being made because of who her brother is and alleged connections to another gang.
She also says her older son has been chased and threatened, including one recent incident in which an individual allegedly told him, “they kill you.”
The mother says she is now unable to sleep, constantly fearing that the next telephone call could bring news that another one of her children has been shot, stabbed or killed.
“I can’t sleep at night,” she said, describing the continuing trauma and fear surrounding her family.
The mother is also candid about her own circumstances, saying she remains in a recovery programme and is preparing to graduate. She says she is working hard to maintain her sobriety and rebuild her life, but believes the ongoing threats against her children are making that increasingly difficult.
She also spoke about sending her sixteen-year-old son to Canada following the shooting. However, she says that arrangement became problematic, alleging that her son was mistreated by a relative while receiving medical treatment for his injuries.
Despite the circumstances, the mother says she is determined to remain present for her children and make amends for mistakes from her past.
Now, her plea is simple: she wants help finding a safe way for her family to leave Bermuda before another child is seriously injured or killed.
The mother says the Gang Reductions Unit Team Lead by Pastor Bean is already assisting one of her sons, but she is asking government agencies, community organizations and anyone capable of helping to come forward.
Her message is that her family needs safety, support and an opportunity to start over somewhere they can live without constantly fearing the next threat or act of violence.
TNN News will continue to follow this family’s plea for assistance and will seek responses from the relevant authorities and agencies regarding what support may be available to families facing threats of violence and seeking emergency relocation assistance.
