Minister Urges Public to Attend CCTV Town Hall on Thursday

The Ministry of National Security is inviting all residents to a public town hall meeting this Thursday, 3 July, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St Paul AME Centennial Hall, 59 Victoria Street, Hamilton.

The event will provide a full update onBermuda’s upgraded island-wide CCTV system and allow the public to hear how the network supports public safety, protects privacy, and assists law enforcement.

The CCTV system is now fully installed and operational, with 225 cameras integrated across 130 locations, delivering 460 distinct camera views.

Additionally, an expansion phase is underway that will see 20 more site locations added, increasing coverage to 150 locations island-wide and further strengthening public safety.

The system features pan-tilt-zoom, multi-sensory, varifocal, and license plate recognition cameras, all linked through modern technology to support the Bermuda Police Service in monitoring public spaces and responding to incidents more effectively.

Minister of National Security, the Hon. Michael Weeks, JP, MP, will be joined on the panel by Commissioner of Police Darrin Simons and Privacy Commissioner Alexander White.

The Minister encouraged residents to take part in this important community dialogue, stating: “I urge everyone to come out on Thursday night. This is your chance to hear the facts about the CCTV system and to have your voice heard.”

“We want an open and honest dialogue with the community. This town hall is about transparency, accountability, and working together for a safer Bermuda.”

“These cameras are here to support public safety, but they are only part of the solution. We need the community’s involvement, starting with showing up and engaging.”

The town hall will address privacy concerns, share details about the system’s capabilities, and allow residents to ask questions directly of the panellists.
