Recently the Minister of Youth, Culture and Sport, Dr. Ernest Peets visited the General Post Office (GPO) Building, site of the Flora Duffy mural, to assess its progress.
The public will recall that the creation of the mural is in recognition of Ms Duffy’s Olympic Gold Medal achievement.
Entitled “Unfolding Flora Duffy”, the mural is being created by local artists Kendra Earls and Shanna Hollis. The two artists shared that the mural is being created in a “Pop Art” style, featuring vibrant colours, shapes and imagery. The design, which aims to be interactive and inspiring, highlights all the various stages of Ms Duffy’s journey of success.
Minister Peets said, “It was a pleasure to get a close up look at the mural, which is really coming along quite nicely. Kendra and Shanna have dedicated their time and talents to creating this amazing piece of public art, and we’re excited about the finished product.”
The Flora Duffy mural, which is in keeping with the Department of Culture’s art in and on public buildings initiative, is expected to be completed by April.
