Minister of Economy and Labour Celebrates World MSME Day

Micro, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) are the backbone of our economy, showcasing resilience, creativity, and innovation. Moreover, they are crucial to our economic vitality and sustainability. And so, as the Minister of Economy and Labour, I am delighted to celebrate World MSME Day on June 27th and join the global community in recognizing MSMEs and the vital role they play.”

“Through the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation, the Government’s commitment to supporting MSMEs in the local economy is unwavering. The BEDC’s dedication to providing education, guidance, advocacy, networking, and financing aligns perfectly with Bermuda’s Economic Development Strategy 2023-2027, specifically Strategic Priority 3: Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development.

“On June 27th, the BEDC will host open houses at the Northeast Hamilton and St. George’s Incubator Hubs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. I encourage everyone to visit these hubs, learn about the BEDC’s offerings, and explore the resources available to support their business ventures. These incubators are essential in nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit within our Economic Empowerment Zones (EEZs).

“Our island’s legacy of entrepreneurship continues to thrive, and our MSMEs are at the forefront of driving Bermuda to success. The BEDC’s efforts to expand incubator and accelerator services, enhance access to finance, and promote entrepreneurship education are instrumental in fostering a world-class entrepreneurial ecosystem in Bermuda.

“To that end, I am also excited about the upcoming Summer Student Entrepreneurship Program (SSEP), which begins on July 1st. This program will develop young Bermudians, ages 14-22, into the next generation of entrepreneurs, teaching them practical business skills and providing opportunities to grow their businesses. This initiative reflects our dedication to embedding entrepreneurial values in our youth.

“Our MSMEs are not only the lifeblood of our economy but also the catalysts for positive change in our society. With the BEDC and the Government’s continued support, we will build a vibrant and thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem in Bermuda. So, let’s celebrate and support our MSMEs each and every day.

“Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you at the open houses tomorrow.”
