Minister engages with stakeholders / departments

The Minister of Home Affairs, the Hon. Alexa Lightbourne JP, MP, has commenced a series of engagements with Ministry departments and stakeholders to address key matters and priorities.

These meetings mark the beginning of Minister Lightbourne’s commitment to strengthening relationships across the Ministry and ensuring the successful delivery of initiatives as outlined in the Government’s 2025 Throne Speech.

The public should note that the Ministry of Home Affairs comprises of Consumer Affairs, the Land Title Registry Office, Energy, and the Regulatory Authority.

And as announced in the Government’s 2025 Throne Speech the Ministry of Home Affairs has been tasked with addressing the cost-of-living.

This includes:

  • Stabilizing energy costs and promoting an energy transition;
  • Addressing the rising cost of essential goods; and
  • Advancing the principles and policies that result in consumer protection, and safeguarding these changes through the reform of regulatory oversight.

In her initial round of visits, Minister Lightbourne met with the leadership and staff of the Department of Land Title Registry (LTR) and Consumer Affairs.

With Consumer Affairs, Minister Lightbourne highlighted the department’s critical role in safeguarding consumer rights and addressing issues related to the cost-of-living and rent control.

At the Department of LTR, the Minister received an in-depth overview of the department’s operations and was also briefed on the current efforts to integrate artificial intelligence and digital innovation to streamline processes, create efficiencies and better serve the public.

Minister Lightbourne said, “It was important for me to meet directly with the teams in these critical departments. Both Consumer Affairs and Land Title Registry play an integral role in supporting our national priorities – from affordability and consumer protection to land security and economic stability. I was deeply impressed by the professionalism, knowledge, and commitment of the staff. I look forward to working collaboratively with each team as we pursue shared goals, particularly around cost-of-living relief and the introduction of innovative, citizen-first services.”

The Ministry will continue its departmental visits in the coming weeks as it executes its mandate to deliver meaningful reforms that improve the lives of all Bermudians.
