MDL Laboratory To Lose Its Leader

Bermuda’s COVID testing regime is at a critical point and is about to collapse….
Government’s Science adviser Dr.Carika Weldon has submitted her resignation and has sounded the alarm. TNN understands that Government leaders and decision makers have not heeded the advice she has given to boost resources and manpower, and to avoid stressing the system further by reopening the schools with on-site learning…

A well placed source has indicated that Dr. Weldon, citing Human resources, physical resources, and decisions to ignore just plain logic, as serious threats to the overall system TNN believes her resignation has been accepted.

We understand Dr. Weldon sees the present situation as a crises and says ultimately its about the decisions made by those at the top.

The escalating positivity rate in our community, and the enormous need for around the clock testing, and processing of results, brought on by the Omicron Variant of the COVID virus, is unrelenting and recent decisions by the policy makers are serving to exacerbate the problem.

TNN can report that the staffing levels at the lab, once at some 15 personnel, has been virtually cut in half due to staff sickness and other unforeseen challenges.

It is clear that the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, while not causing hospitalization is impacting the Health Care system in other ways and TNN understands Dr. Weldon finds herself at odds with the demands and has chosen for her own health to resign effective January 31st.
