Man who smashed police officer’s car windows is fined in Magistrates Court

A 21year old man who got into an confrontation with a policeman, ended with the officer’s car windows being smashed was fined more than $2,700.

Jagai Bailey, 21, from Sandys, tried to hit Chickaya Darrell, his neighbour at the time, with a broom handle on November 25, 2021 during an altercation. A few hours later he smashed Mr Darrell’s car windows.

Another man who was working on Mr. Darrell’s house at the time of the incident and tried to intervene but was bitten by Bailey’s dog. Mr. Jones defending himself hit the dog and Bailey with a broken shovel.

Bailey pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour, keeping a dog that injured someone and to not having a dog licence at an earlier hearing in Magistrates’ Court, appeared again Wednesday, morning, for sentencing.

Magistrate Tyrone Chin fined Bailey, $2,750, as well ordering that he pay $151.46 in compensation to Mr. Jones to cover his medical bill from the dog bite.

Anne Bailey, the mother of Jagai Bailey told Magistrate Chin that Mr Darrell had been “bullying her son” for a while before the incident at there family home and that it is not the first incident between the two men.

They have since moved out of the home they have live in for close to 40 years, as a result of the escalating tension the mother said.

Bailey was given on month to pay the fine and compensation. The court was told that Bailey’s father has since fixed Mr Darrell’s car windows.
