A 31-year-old Pembroke man, who assaulted his neighbour, appeared in Magistrates Court on Wednesday, charged with assault causing bodily harm, as well as wilfully damaging a motorcycle belonging to the victim.
Alton O’Connor pleaded guilty to the offences, which took place on May 1, and saw O’Connor strike Sithiresan Narayanan several times with a metal rod before the latter was escorted to the safety of another neighbour’s apartment.
The offences were said to have stemmed from the victim’s cigarette smoking outside of a premises next to that of O’Connor.
O’Connor took umbrage to Narayanan’s smoking and approached the victim, while shouting profanities and waving a metal rod, making contact with the victim three or four times.
O’Connor was released by Senior Magistrate Maxanne Anderson on $5,000 bail and ordered to return to court on July 12, when pre-sentencing reports are to have been completed. He was also told that he should have no contact with the victim.
