Major Traffic Disruptions After Early Morning Collision on Harbour Road

An early morning accident on Harbour Road created major traffic chaos for commuters heading into Hamilton today. The incident occurred shortly after 2 a.m., when a car lost control and struck a utility pole, leaving the pole badly damaged and unstable.

As a result, traffic from the west into Hamilton was heavily impacted during the morning rush. One road user described the situation as a “major nightmare,” explaining that despite leaving home at 7 a.m., they did not reach their workplace until 9 a.m.

Traffic was diverted from Harbour Road onto Chapel Road, causing a significant bottleneck along Middle Road. South Road was also severely congested, with vehicles backed up from the Paget stoplight all the way to Warwick Camp. On Harbour Road, traffic delays stretched from the Paget stoplight all the way back to the Marketplace in Southampton.

Utility crews and personnel from the Bermuda Electric Light Company (BELCO) were on site throughout the morning. However, progress was slowed as subcontractors were required to carry out excavation work before the damaged pole could be removed and replaced.

BELCO officials advised that the process would take several hours and cautioned that the issue may not be resolved until later in the day. While crews are working diligently, traffic leaving Hamilton this afternoon is also expected to face possible delays.
