A 20-year-old Warwick man appeared in Magistrates’ Court today facing a lengthy list of traffic-related offences.
Zemiko Williams appeared before Senior Magistrate Maxsanne Anderson and was dealt with for multiple traffic offences, including driving while disqualified, driving without a licence plate, disobeying traffic signs, operating an unlicensed bike, altering a licence plate, failing to stop, using a forged licence plate and dangerous driving.
Williams also faced two additional matters involving driving while disqualified.
The court heard that this was his second offence, with Williams having previously received suspended custodial sentences. Those sentences included two three-month terms of imprisonment suspended for two years, as well as two six-month terms of imprisonment suspended for two years.
During today’s proceedings, Williams took ownership of his behaviour and accepted responsibility for his actions.
He told Magistrate Anderson that if he had seriously injured someone, it wouldn’t be a good outcome for him, as he expressed remorse, for his behavior saying he was sorry.
That admission and apparent willingness to accept responsibility appeared to be a significant part of the court’s consideration as Magistrate Anderson sought to encourage the 20-year-old to change direction.
The Magistrate was firm, however, making it clear that Williams needs to focus on his future and get his life back on track.
She stressed that this is not the path he wants to continue going down and made clear that his requirements moving forward would be strict.
Williams was ordered to pay a total of $3,900 in fines, with Magistrate Anderson directing him to make arrangements through a payment plan and emphasizing that he must adhere to those financial obligations.
The court’s approach was both firm and instructive, with the Magistrate giving Williams an opportunity to take responsibility and make better choices while making clear that failure to comply with the court’s requirements could have serious consequences.
Williams is due back before Magistrate Anderson on October 21, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., for a review of the matter.
