Long Serving PLP Member Facing Sanction

Long Serving PLP Member Facing Sanction

TNN understands that Ms. Ellen-Kate Horton a  longstanding Progressive Labour Party member is facing sanction over a published report on her opposition to the proposed closure of the West End Primary School as part of government’s restructuring of the Public Primary School System.

Ms. Horton citing the historical legacy of the Sandys school to the black community as sufficient grounds for it to remain open.

Ms. Horton is to  reportedly go before the PLP’s Disciplinary Committee to answer questions over her position on the issue since it is allegedly seen as having caused embarrassment to the party.

It however remains what the exact accusation is that has led to Ms. Horton having to go before the Disciplinary Committee, or who has made the accusation.

TNN has been reliably informed that Jamal Simmons, a former Tourism Minister in the Burt Administration and Member of Parliament for Constituency 33, Sandys South has been the only member of the party who has come to the defence of Ms. Horton.

However, Party insiders who spoke with us on condition that we not name them are questioning the alleged action against Ms. Horton when “There are others who’ve done far worse.”

Those sources citing former Tourism and Transport Minister Zane DeSilva  “attacking govt over the doctor brown case” and former Public Works Minister, Derrick Burgess holding a press conference to attack the government’s beach agenda at Shelly Bay.

As well as MPs reportedly conspiring with the Opposion on the motion of no confidence in Dr. Brown.

TNN has reached out to the PLP for comment on these claims as well as the reported disciplinary action against Ms. Horton, without success.

Repeated efforts to obtain comment from Ms. Horton have also proven futile.
