Legal Opinion Raises Questions Over PLP Membership Rules and Premier’s Failure to Circulate Advice

TNN EXCLUSIVE:

TNN has obtained a copy of a 13-page legal opinion dated 27 August 2026 from Trott & Duncan concerning the PLP’s membership process.

The advice concluded that the Party Leader’s Addendum went beyond the powers of the Central Committee and raised serious concerns about applying new membership rules to people whose memberships had already been confirmed. Neutral Advice (3).pdf

TNN understands the document was provided to the Premier with the expectation that relevant PLP MPs would be made aware of its contents.

We further understand that the Premier had the document for some time, but it was not circulated to those individuals. The legal opinion is now making its way across political social-media channels.
